The revised DualShock 4 — model CUH-ZCT2, the version most buyers specifically look for. It keeps everything that made the original one of the most comfortable gamepads ever made, with a handful of worthwhile improvements.

The most visible change is a light strip running through the top of the touchpad, so you can see your player colour without turning the controller over — useful in local multiplayer and for checking charge status at a glance. Less obvious but more useful: the V2 supports data transfer over USB, so plugging it into a PS4 with a standard cable gives a wired connection rather than charging alone. It also has a slightly larger battery than the original.

Everything else carries over. The clickable touchpad handles gestures and menu navigation, a built-in speaker routes small audio cues to your hands, and the 3.5mm headset jack takes any wired headset for game audio and chat. The Share button captures screenshots and video clips with a press, and six-axis motion sensing supports tilt controls where games use them. Dual vibration motors handle rumble.

Contoured grips, concave textured thumbsticks and smooth-pulling analogue triggers make it comfortable across long sessions. The built-in rechargeable battery charges over micro-USB, and Bluetooth pairing extends it to Windows and macOS — where it’s natively supported in Steam — plus iOS and Android.
