The official Joy-Con 2 set — one left, one right, plus a pair of Joy-Con 2 straps — giving you a second set for local multiplayer or a replacement so you’re never waiting on a charge to get back in the game.

The biggest change over the original Joy-Con is how they attach. Joy-Con 2 controllers connect to the Switch 2 magnetically, with the magnets embedded in the console and a release button on the back to detach them. The SL and SR buttons are larger and made of metal, and the controllers themselves are bigger than their predecessors.

The headline new feature is mouse mode. Both the left and right Joy-Con 2 have optical sensors on their connection-rail edge, so you can set one flat on a desk or table and slide it around to move a cursor on screen, with the analogue stick working as a scroll wheel. All the buttons remain usable in this mode. It works in the Home Menu and eShop, and in compatible games — strategy titles, point-and-click games, and anything designed around cursor precision. Pick the controller up and it switches straight back to conventional controls.

HD Rumble 2 replaces the original haptics with stronger vibration, faster response times and a wider variety of effects, and it works in mouse mode too. The new C Button on the right Joy-Con gives one-press access to GameChat. Motion controls via accelerometer and gyroscope are unchanged in principle but still fully supported, and the right Joy-Con 2 retains NFC for amiibo.
