The speaker that launched Google’s smart home line. Google Home pairs a voice assistant with room-filling sound in a compact, understated design — a soft white top over an interchangeable base, designed to blend into a kitchen counter or bookshelf rather than stand out.

Voice control is the core of it. Two far-field microphones pick up your voice from across the room, even with music playing, so you can ask questions, set timers and reminders, check the weather, add to shopping lists, or control compatible smart lights, plugs, thermostats and cameras hands-free. Voice Match can recognise different household members and give personalised answers from each person’s calendar and accounts.

For audio, a high-excursion driver with dual passive radiators delivers clear vocals and fuller bass than most compact speakers of its generation. Chromecast is built in, so you can cast music from Spotify, YouTube Music and other apps straight from your phone, and group it with other Google or Nest speakers for multi-room playback. It can also send video to a Chromecast-connected TV by voice.

The touch-sensitive top handles volume and playback, with LED lights showing when it’s listening, and a physical mute switch on the back turns the microphones off entirely.
