The best version of the original Switch family, and the one worth recommending to anyone who plays mostly handheld. The upgrades are targeted rather than sweeping, but they land where they matter.

The 7-inch OLED screen is the headline. It’s noticeably larger than the standard Switch’s 6.2-inch LCD without making the console bigger, and the OLED panel delivers richer colours, deeper blacks and far better contrast. Side by side, the difference in handheld play is immediate.

The wide adjustable stand is the other genuine improvement. It runs the full width of the back and holds any angle securely, replacing the flimsy flap on the original and making tabletop play actually practical. The dock adds a wired LAN port for a more stable online connection, and the onboard speakers have been enhanced — a real step up in handheld and tabletop audio.

Internal storage is 64GB, double the standard model, expandable with a microSD card. All three play modes work as usual: docked to a TV at up to 1080p, tabletop, or handheld. The Joy-Con detach for local multiplayer, each functioning as a standalone controller with its own stick and SL/SR buttons, with motion controls and HD Rumble on both and NFC for amiibo on the right.
