The current-generation official Xbox controller. Rather than reinventing a design that already worked, Microsoft refined it — the result is slightly smaller, better textured and more comfortable for a wider range of hand sizes, while keeping the layout that PC and console games are built around.

The standout change is the hybrid D-pad. Its faceted, dish-like shape borrows from the Elite Series 2 and makes diagonal inputs and quarter-circle motions far more reliable than the old cross — a genuine improvement for fighting games and platformers. Textured grip is applied to the triggers, bumpers and back case, giving a more secure hold than the smooth plastic of the previous generation.

New for this model is the Share button, sitting centrally below the Xbox logo, which captures screenshots with a press and video clips with a hold — no menu diving.

Connection is flexible: Xbox Wireless for consoles, Bluetooth Low Energy for Windows, Android and iOS, or USB-C wired. Dynamic Latency Input reduces input lag on Series X|S specifically, and the controller can pair with multiple devices and switch between them with a double-tap of the pairing button.

The 3.5mm stereo headset jack takes any compatible headset, and impulse triggers provide localised vibration in the triggers themselves in supported games, alongside the standard rumble motors. Button mapping through the Xbox Accessories app lets you remap inputs and save profiles.
