The official PlayStation 5 controller, and the piece of hardware that does most of the work in making PS5 games feel different from what came before.

Haptic feedback is the reason why. Dual actuators replace conventional rumble motors, producing sensation precise enough to distinguish the crunch of gravel from the give of mud underfoot, or the specific recoil pattern of one weapon versus another. Adaptive triggers add the second half: L2 and R2 push back with variable force and tension, so drawing a bowstring tightens progressively and a jammed weapon resists your finger.

A built-in microphone lets you jump into voice chat without a headset, with a dedicated mute button to cut voice capture instantly, and the 3.5mm jack takes any wired headset. The Create button makes capturing and sharing clips a single press, and the clickable touchpad, six-axis motion sensor, built-in speaker and light bar are all there for games that use them.

Ergonomically it’s a step up from the DualShock 4 — larger, better balanced, with deeper grips and a textured finish on the handles. The built-in battery charges over USB-C, and Bluetooth pairing extends it to Windows PC, Mac, Android and iOS, including Apple Arcade titles and PS Remote Play streaming from your console.
